At the round table held on August 7th 2020 in Sarajevo, the Institute for Development and Innovation presented the results of “The cost of youth emigration from Bosnia and Herzegovina” research.
The round table was organized for the member of the Parliament in Bosnia with the aim of starting the discussion about the migration phenomenon and creating new politics in this field.
The research results indicate that on the national level, the cost of youth emigration from Bosnia is between 644 to 805 million euros, which lead to the potential annual GDP loss of 550 million euros.
If this trend continues, the biggest challenges in the future will be more pressure on the pension funds, health care and social security – the participants concluded. As the recommendation to overcome these challenges it was proposed to create strategies and policies aimed at the youth.
