The Institute for Development and Innovation will implement the project “Rights for moms“ in the next 9 months.
The goal of the project is to improve the socio-economic position of women after maternity leave through analyzing and advocating for the better position and status of women in the labor market and relations with employers. Also, the project aims to improve the system-legislative position, as well as raise citizens’ awareness about this issue on multiple levels – political, economic, and social consequences.
Relevant researches identify the unfavorable socio-economic position of women after maternity leave in the Republic of Serbia, primarily through the unsatisfactory position on the labor market, the inadequate attitude of the state and employers towards women after maternity leave, and insufficient public information on the issue. One-third of all mothers at the time of childbirth are unemployed or economically inactive, and the structure of jobs is also unfavorable.
The project activities will focus on organizing round tables, formulating and publishing policy proposals to improve the working status of women returning from maternity leave, and leading the advocacy process to make these policies part of the legislative framework.
The project “Rights for moms!” Is funded by the Open Society Foundation.
