The Institute for Development and Innovation held workshops in Sarajevo on June 30 and July 1 dedicated to two measures of economic policies related to the labor market in Serbia. The goal of the workshop was for colleagues from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to gain insight into the proposals and results of those policies, as well as to learn about the challenges that arose during the development of these policies.
First, a proposal for measures for expectant mothers was presented, which includes three-year subsidization of mandatory contributions. In the first year, the contribution subsidy would be 65%, in the second 60%, and in the third 50%. The multiple positive effects expected from this measure are the long-term job retention of mothers, the incentive to employ those who were unemployed before giving birth, the reduction of mothers’ financial dependence, and the possibility of their career development. In addition, the proposed measure also benefits companies, whose operating costs will be reduced.
The retraining program for graphic designers, which is implemented from 2020, was also presented. The training itself lasts 3 months and includes workshops in graphic design and entrepreneurship. The expected results of the program are that after the training, the participants work well-paid jobs for domestic and foreign companies. At the very end of the program, an employment fair is organized that gathers training participants and companies that need to hire new staff. Through the project, the personal and career development of the participants is monitored until their employment.
The workshop was organized by the office of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy in Sarajevo.
