The Institute for Development and Innovation has launched the project DALIA (Danube Region Water Lighthouse Action) as part of the Consortium consisting of 22 expert organizations (universities, authorities, SMEs and NGOs) which spread across 8 different Danube EU and Associated countries.
The Danube River Basin is a vital artery of regional ecosystems with a significant environmental impact. Being home to 79 million people, it has an important economic role and major cultural significance. DALIA engages with this complex and delicate ecosystem and approaches it holistically.
The project aims to enhance the restoration of fresh and transitional water ecosystems in the Danube River Basin by developing the DALIA tool which will be integrated into the Danube Mission Hub.
This will aid in making better decisions for protecting freshwater ecosystems, improving connectivity, and safeguarding local communities from extreme weather events and pollution.
DALIA will also support the implementation of EU and UN initiatives, specifically the Water Framework Directive, by implementing innovative actions across various Danube regions and scaling them up to impact a wider network of ecosystems.
DALIA is funded by the European Union through the Horizon Europe funding program.
