ClimaPannonia is a four-year project funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe programme, aimed at accelerating the adoption of climate-resilient agricultural practices across the Pannonian region.
A total of 24 partners from 10 European countries of the Pannonian Biogeographical Area (PBA) – Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, Romania, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, with expert support from organizations in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Greece – form the consortium implementing the project activities, with a total budget of 5.8 million EUR.
The agricultural sector across the PBA is facing increasing and complex pressures caused by climate change. Rising temperatures, prolonged droughts, frequent heatwaves, and unstable weather patterns are increasingly disrupting traditional agricultural practices, reducing yields, and threatening food production stability. These changes affect not only crops and livestock but also seriously impact the socio-economic status of rural communities, particularly small and medium-sized producers who lack the capacity for rapid adaptation. There is an urgent need for practical solutions that can be adapted to different conditions and applied at various scales to protect farmers and ensure sustainable production.
The main goal of the project is to improve climate change resilience by developing, testing, validating, and implementing systemic solutions in four key agricultural subsectors: the water-food nexus, agroforestry, organic crop production and cattle production.
The project activities are focused on coordinated action and knowledge exchange among partners and various local stakeholders, so that ClimaPannonia contributes to building more sustainable and resilient agriculture in the Pannonian Biogeographical Area.
The ClimaPannonia project aims to support the agricultural sector in significantly improving its climate resilience.
The Institute for Development and Innovation is the coordinator of the work package aimed at quantifying the socio-economic and environmental benefits of the applied systemic solutions.
In addition, the Institute leads the task of roadmap design, which focuses on shaping a clear path for the long-term adoption and integration of project outcomes.
The Institute for Development and Innovation actively contributes to advancing agriculture that is resilient to climate change and supports the region’s transition to sustainable and adaptable farming.
Through the ClimaPannonia project, the Institute for Development and Innovation will contribute to the broader adoption and implementation of agroecological measures in the agricultural sector of the Republic of Serbia.
Additionally, through the ClimaPannonia project, the Institute for Development and Innovation aims to contribute to sustainability and strengthening climate resilience of the agricultural sector through its activities in the RURALITIES, NitroScope and ESIRA projects, and its engagement in the Regenerative Agriculture Alliance of Serbia.
