In response to the challenges young people face in the labour market and with the aim of promoting youth entrepreneurship, the Institute for Development and Innovation and Junior Achievement Serbia organized a working meeting on 16 December as part of the BY LEAP project to discuss the development of a Youth Company model.
The Youth Company is not intended to be a new legal entity. Instead, it builds on the existing legal status of a lump-sum sole proprietor, allowing the measure to be implemented without amending current legislation or introducing tax exemptions.
Under the proposed model, the monthly lump-sum tax and contribution obligations would be reimbursed from the budget of an existing public institution for a period of up to one year and for businesses with annual revenues of up to RSD 1.2 million, thereby minimizing the potential for misuse. The proposed economic policy measure was developed based on an assessment of the position of young people in the labour market, the strategic priorities of the Government of the Republic of Serbia regarding economic development, the challenges young people face in employment, and the practical experience and expertise of the organizations that prepared the proposal.
During the meeting, participants discussed the proposed Youth Company model and the broader position of young people in the labour market. They also made valuable contributions by identifying key challenges faced by young people and providing feedback on the proposed measure.
